The purpose of the JoyPhrase Campaign was twofold: (1) to replace the disempowering expression "no pain, no gain" with a more empowering one and (2) to lift the consciousness about the life-enhancing use of language. Further information about this campaign is presented in the article, "Let's Replace this Expression: No Pain, No Gain."

The June 1996 JoyPhrase Campaign began with the June 3 affirmation:

"I let go of everything that appears to prevent or block joy.
I cancel the picture created by the expression, "no pain, no gain."

All 365 affirmations are available at the DailyAffirm blog site. Please read about our DailyAffirm Email Alert Options. This Personal Development Process has been available on the Internet since 1994.

This article includes the awards given in the June 1996 JoyPhrase Campaign and the June (and later) entries to the JoyPhrase Campaign. The entries are numbered in the order in which they were received.

Continue To Create Empowering Expressions

Many wonderful phrases were submitted. However, no one JoyPhrase stood out as the obvious first choice for those voting for their preferences. I have my favorite; others have their favorites. I think that having lots of JoyPhrases is a wonderful idea! We don't all need to have the same number one choice.

Six years after the beginning of this campaign, I noticed in an article in a local newspaper reviewing some spa retreats that the author found that "no pain, no gain" is no longer a popular concept. Bravo!
